Jonathan McDowell of Jonathan's Space Report on Tracking Space Objects

Jonathan McDowell is an astronomer best known for cataloging the objects humans have sent into space, and for publishing Jonathan's Space Report. In this Astro Ben Podcast interview, host Ben Gamble talks with him about his career, why space tracking matters, and the work of keeping an accurate record of what is up there.

The conversation also covers his effort to move his private space library to the UK, which is being funded through a GoFundMe campaign. Jonathan shares his views on AI in astrophysics, how UFO sightings are often misinterpreted, the growing problem of space junk, and space culture more broadly.

If you follow space situational awareness, orbital debris or the history of spaceflight, this is a conversation with one of the people who keeps the record. The episode is sponsored by SkyFi. For more, hear Marino Fragnito of Avio on Europe's launch future or Kate van Dam of SkyFi on geospatial data, or browse the full Astro Ben Podcast archive.
