Dr Harry Cliff of CERN on Space Oddities, the Hubble Tension and Comedy

Dr Harry Cliff, a particle physicist and former stand-up comedian, joins Ben Gamble on the Astro Ben Podcast. Harry is a research physicist working at CERN's Large Hadron Collider and specialises in making science accessible and fun.

Ben and Harry discuss his latest book, Space Oddities, which explores anomalies in physics and asks whether they point to a revolutionary new scientific age or whether we are so desperate to see something new that we risk seeing effects where there are none. They talk about the Hubble Tension, dark energy and dark matter, and what Early Dark Energy is.

The conversation also covers life as a researcher at CERN, whether physicists are underfunded, and the overlap between stand-up comedy and science communication. A good listen for anyone curious about cosmology and particle physics.
